General of the Thespian army. 480 BC. Despite popular belief, Leonidas' 300 Spartans were not alone in the Battle of Thermopylae Pass. A contingent of various Greek poleis opposed to the Persian occupation accompanied them. And in the last stages of the battle, once the Greeks already knew that the Persians had discovered a mountain pass to surround them and attack from their rear, 700 Thespians under the command of General Demophilus decided to stay with the Spartans to cover the retreat of the rest of the Greek army. Demophilus and his troops didn' t want to leave Leonidas and his 300 alone. They would slow down the Persian advance as much as possible. (400 Thebans also stayed, but they ended up surrendering...)
In memory of Demophilus and his 700. Strength and Honor.
