This hoplite can be identified as Athenian by the owl on his shield, a heraldic symbol of Athens from the beginning of the 5th century BC, which began to appear on the shields of hoplites at the end of the same century, as in other city states with their respective heraldic symbols. He is equipped with a helmet of the chalcid type, linothorax armour, an Argive shield with a cloth nailed to the underside to deflect projectiles and a kopis as offensive armament.
