This new illustration depicts a scene set during the Persian Wars. We can see the hoplites equipped with a variety of contemporary helmets, such as the Corinthian-type helmet of the hoplite in the foreground, the Illyrian-type helmet without face protection, or the Chalcidic-type helmet of the hoplite on the right, a more open evolution of the corinthian helmet. Other than their equipment, all are protected by linothorax armor, made of glued linen fibers. As offensive weapons, we can see two hoplites with the xiphos sword, the rest with spears (dori) and hoplite shields (aspis).
