The Green Knight, also known as Sancho Martín, was a crusader knight who fought in the second and third crusades in the Holy Land. A native of Castile, he was recognized for his green surcoat and his helmet decorated with deer antlers. His courage in combat gave him such fame that Sultan Saladin himself met with him to offer him riches, ask him to apostatize and join his forces. Sancho respectfully rejected the offer and withdrew to continue fighting with his men. In the scene we see him in the defense of the city of Tire (1187-1188). With him appear several knights and a sergeant of the order of Saint John (Hospitallers) with his black surcoat and shield with a white cross, also accompanied by several secular crusaders.
