Knights Templar charging. 12th century

The scene depicts the imposing moment of the Knights Templar’s charge during one of the battles that took place between the Second and Third Crusades in the Holy Land, such as the Battle of Montgisard, a great victory for the Christian forces, or the total rout suffered by the Crusaders at the Battle of the Horns of Hattin. In the background, we can see a Templar marshal raising the battle standard of the Order of the Temple, the Gonfanon Baucent or vexillum belli.
