Samnite warrior, 4th century BC

Reconstruction of a warrior from the Samnium region, in Italy, equipped with an Attic-style Samnite helmet featuring a triple-disc cheek guard and decorated with a tall plume and feathers. He is also protected by a triple-disc cuirass, a Samnite bronze belt and bronze greaves for the legs. His weaponry consists of a spear, a short xiphos-type sword and an Argive shield.
Samnite tunics are notable for the variety of colours and patterns they typically featured.
